Digestive Enzymes for Dogs - CompleZyme Plus
Normal, healthy digestion is a key part of your dog’s overall good health. Under normal conditions, your dog’s digestive system is able to develop and maintain a healthy balance of friendly bacteria needed to support healthy digestion. But with stressful situations such as traveling, dietary changes, age, illness, deworming, antibiotic treatment, or even separation anxiety from family members gone during the day, this delicate balance can easily become upset and your dog can develop digestion or elimination issues, such as excessive gas or loose stools, that can take its toll over time.

Under stressful conditions, the number of bad (pathogenic) bacteria quickly increases, while the number of beneficial bacteria decreases. As a result, this imbalance can lead to digestion upsets including diarrhea, constipation, and discomfort. And when it comes to the health of your dog, especially keeping his sensitive digestive system working properly, you want to take the best care possible by providing him with a healthy, effective solution. CompleZyme Plus is an effective digestive aid that can help restore the normal balance in the intestines, working quickly to get your dog’s digestive health back on track.

CompleZyme Plus’ formula helps restore this delicate balance to its natural, healthy state by providing viable lactobacillus acidophilus (500,000 CFU at time of manufacture). These live, naturally occurring micro-organisms, called probiotics or “friendly bacteria”, help support a favorable environment for the absorption of nutrients, encourage intestinal microflora balance, and promote the healthy functioning of the intestinal system.

Additionally, CompleZyme Plus contains a concentrated blend of three natural digestive enzymes for dogs, including bromelain enzymes, which are quickly and easily absorbed. This effective blend of digestive enzymes play an important role in the complex process of digestion by assisting with the breakdown of starches, proteins, fats and cellulose, as well as replace valuable food nutrients that are lost during the processing of most dog foods. Senior dogs, too, can benefit greatly from CompleZyme Plus, as older dogs typically do not produce adequate amounts of enzymes on their own.

All natural and without fillers or commercial additives, CompleZyme Plus provides the gastrointestinal relief and daily support your dogs need to help maintain his active lifestyle.

Ingredient Benefits

Betaine HCl
A nutrient and a source of hydrochloric acid, Betain HCl is a naturally occurring chemical in the stomach that helps digest food by breaking up fats and proteins.Betaine HCl activates pepsinogen to pepsin conversion, stimulates flow of bile and pancreative enzymes, facilitates nutrient absorption, and helps prevents bacterial and fungal over growth.

Bromelain
Bromelain is a mixture of protein-digesting enzymes which is extracted from the plant family Bromeliaceae, the most popular of which is pineapple. In 1957 researchers discovered that bromelain, which is concentrated in the stem of the plant, was the active ingredient responsible for its numerous beneficial effects, one of which includes aiding in the breakdown and digestion of proteins.

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)
Fructooligosaccharides, known as FOS, form a class of carbohydrates beneficial to the gastrointestinal tract and the immune system. Unlike most carbohydrates, FOS has a unique structure and is not processed in the gastrointestinal tract like other carbohydrates. Instead, FOS is able to enter the colon intact, where it is broken down in a process of fermentation by beneficial bacteria that live in the gut. Fermentation of FOS produces short-chain fatty acids, which according to recent studies, can improves the colon's immunity against infectious agents and also can reduce episodes of digestive disturbances.

Garlic
Commonly called a "superfood", it is widely believed that garlic has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. Garlic contains many active components, including potent oil with sulphur-containing compounds (allicin, alliin, and ajoene), enzymes (allinase, peroxidase and myrosinase), glucokinins, B group vitamins, vitamin C and flavonoids, citral, geraniol, linalool, aphellandrene and B phellandrene. Garlic also contains a wide range of trace minerals, which include copper, iron, zinc, magnesium, germanium, and selenium. The key therapeutic ingredient in garlic is alliin. Alliin is an odorless sulfur-containing chemical derived from the amino acid cysteine. Allicin is formed when alliin, a sulfur-containing amino acid, comes into contact with the enzyme alliinase when raw garlic is chopped, crushed, or chewed. Allicin is what gives garlic its antibiotic properties and is responsible for its distinct odor.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Lactobacillusacidophilus (L. acidophilus) is the most commonly used probiotic, or "friendly" bacteria. These naturally occuring microorganisms help to maintain a healthy intestinal tract and aid digestion. Studies support that Oral ingestion of Lactobacillus acidophilus may also be useful for the prevention of diarrhea, treating irritable bowel syndrome and treating chronic constipation.

Pancreatin
Pancreatin is a mixture of three enzymes normally made by the pancreas: amylase, lipase and protease. These enzymes work together to break down fats, protein and starch in the diet into smaller particles which the small intestine can then absorb. Specifically, these enzymes catalyze the hydrolysis of fats into glycerol and fatty acids, protein into proteoses and derived substances, and starch into dextrins and sugars.

Taurine
Taurine, is an organic acid used by the body in the digestion of food. Taurine, which is naturally produced (made in the liver and secreted from the gall bladder into the intestines), aids with fat digestion and utilization. Inadequate amounts of dietary taurine can lead to weak bile and poorly digested fatty food. Interestingly, taurine is named after the Latin taurus, which means bull or ox, as it was first isolated from ox bile in 1827 by German scientists.
